Shelby chimes in, "The hemp program in Nevada didn't start until last year though so that's when we started getting a bulk of our hemp testing. Our hemp pilot program did not start until last year." "Why is it so important to have third party marijuana lab tests?" Kevin asks. "Do you like to know what's in your food, gasoline, water and milk? You should also know what is in your CBD products. Everything we consume is tested to ensure that whoever is making the product is what they claim it is. Because there is not a lot of education on CBD it is even more important to get a CBD product tested." "Currently in the state of Nevada you are only required to get potency testing but we are see a lot of CBD companies go above and beyond to get the testing so that when they present it to a dispensary or a CBD store it is almost used as a marketing tool. Look my product is clean." Shelby adds. "What kind of new testing are you seeing with these hemp products? What are they looking for?" "Most everyone wants potency. How much CBD and which CBDs do we find. Everyone else want to know how much THC is in the product. Potency is important from a legal standpoint so that everyone knows how much of each molecule is in each dose. There is also terpene testing that people like to do because terpenes have a really big impact on the effectiveness of CBD. There is also all sorts of safety test from pesticides to a microbiology screen. We also test for heavy metals and moisture. We give everything a visual inspection as well." "A lot of people are seeing heavy metals in their soil so they want to do testing up front on their soil and water so they can know what they are starting off with. We try and help them from beginning to end." Shelby adds. "Why is state and federal intervention a double edge sword?" "I can give you my opinion," answers Todd Denkin. "I don't see it as a double edge sword. The producers of the product see it as a double edge sword because they don't always get back what they say they are producing. Hemp has not really been grown much here in the United States for the last 50 years. It's grown in Asia and Russia. You just don't know what you are getting so unless you test hemp there is no way to really know. You can think you know, even if you are not trying to do anything nefarious, unless something is tested you have no idea. If the hemp is not tested, whatever product is being made from that hemp isn't tested, then you really have no idea. The black market producers call it a double edge sword because they say they want it tested but they don't really want to get it tested. They want it to be clean but they don't want to pay for the testing. The industry needs to come together and focus on consumer safety. The moment someone gets sick or something nefarious happens it gives a black eye on the entire industry. We need to self-regulate that amongst ourselves." "If we are going to call it medicine, especially the CBD products, you have to treat it as such." Shelby adds. "Most CBD companies are marketing health and wellness. In order to do that you need to make sure that a certificate comes with it to make sure it is not riddled with any type of toxin." "Are you testing the pant itself or from the distillates? Tell us the different testing you do." Kevin asks. "The answer is yes, all of the above, every step of the way," Todd Denkin responds. "Every time a product is created it has to be tested. The most efficient way to do it is to test your flower or your trim right off of the plant.
