It sends your body into stress mode When you skip a meal, your blood sugar drops and your body experiences that as a form of stress. In response, it releases cortisol — the stress hormone. Elevated cortisol can lead to increased fat storage, especially around the belly, and disrupts your hunger cues. Instead of burning fat, your body becomes focused on survival, slowing your metabolism and holding on to energy. 2. You’re more likely to overeat later Skipping meals often leads to extreme hunger later in the day — and that’s when willpower goes out the window. You’re not just “a little hungry” — you’re ravenous. When you skip meals, you might feel tired, irritable, anxious, or foggy-headed. That not only affects your productivity but also increases the chances of emotional or mindless eating. So, what should you do instead? ✅ Eat balanced meals regularly — ideally every 4–5 hours. ✅ Focus on real, whole foods with enough protein, fiber, and healthy fats to keep you full. ✅ Listen to your hunger signals instead of ignoring them.
