I don't want to get into the specifics of the study but the bottom line is the group that got metformin did lose weight. The group that got the placebo gained weight. BUT - they didn't control for any other factors like changes in diet and exercise. They also found that the people that seemed to benefit the most were the heaviest and had the worst insulin resistance. To me - no matter how poorly designed this study was - this isn't a shocker.
