First, I discuss how your body adapts to your current diet, making it necessary to continuously reduce calories to maintain weight loss. I explain the concept of "set point" and why initial progress often leads to plateaus. Second, I address why trying to lose weight through exercise alone is ineffective. Drawing from Herman Pontzer's research, I explain how our bodies maintain constant energy output by reducing BMR when we increase exercise. While exercise is crucial for health, it's not the primary driver of weight loss. Finally, I delve into insulin resistance and its role in fat storage. Based on Dr. Jason Fung's work, I explain how high insulin levels can "lock away" fat stores. I share how fasting helped me break through plateaus by improving insulin sensitivity and making caloric restriction easier. I conclude with my personal journey, where I started with the slow carb diet but found greater success with alternate day fasting.
