Note: It is generally recommended to lose 1-2 pounds per week. https://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html If you are interested in trying the healthy, hearty stew I am using for my primary diet, the recipe is here: 8 pounds of meat (I used 4lb Beef Chuck Roast, 2lb Ham, 2lb chicken) 4 medium gold potatoes 1 can of black beans 1 box of Japanese curry mix (I used HOT) 1 cup of brown rice 1 can of fire roasted corn 1 can of diced tomatoes 1 can of diced tomato and chilies (lots of flavor here, very important) 2 large carrots 1 bell pepper, any color 6 garlic cloves (or more if you like garlic) 4 celery stalks ½ white onion 1 bunch of cilantro Salt, pepper, and whatever spices you would like to add Boil the meat for 1 hour, scoop any foam or junk that floats to the top. Remove meat and cut it up, then put it back in the water same water with the rice, onions, carrots and garlic, and boil that for an hour. Add everything else and boil for another hour. Done. Simple. The concept of using a weight loss drug was difficult to embrace because society and medicine all talk about losing weight as a process of calorie deficit and exercise. What if that doesn't work, no matter how strict or careful we are about what we eat and how we are increasing our movement? MC shares the studies that were compared, looking at exercise and calorie restriction, semaglutide use, and trizepatide after 4 years of maintenance. The two studies using weight loss drugs were well above the outcome for the exercise and diet study. Exercise and Diet maintained an approximate 5% weight loss, while semaglutide was about 10% and trizepatide was about 25%. The studies with trizepatide showed success close to what is seen with long-term maintenance after bariatric surgery. MC shares how she was convinced she needed discipline with calorie restriction and exercise but was never successful enough to change her health. Tirzepatide has helped her achieve a weight she hasn't been at in over 40 years. The struggle is real for many people, and our society still feels that we must lose weight with calorie restriction and exercise. Yet the medical profession is now beginning to understand and implement the help needed for many struggling people like MC who have no success when restricting calories and increasing exercise. We all need to realize that our food and bodies have changed and that our world is not what it used to be regarding our health. We must begin by helping us find health through weight loss because what is happening to our food is complicated, and access to nutritious eating isn't available for many people. MC encourages us to celebrate who we are and recognize that we can embrace whatever help we need to move toward a healthier version of ourselves. Thriving is key to our older years, and weighing less and increasing muscle is helpful. While using weight loss drugs is useful, MC still plans to incorporate healthy lifestyle actions with nutrition and exercise. Be well, my friends.
