Again, seems simple enough. That being said, to lose weight, you must eat under maintenance, and to gain weight, you need to eat over maintenance. How can you do this at the same time? In one day, its effectively impossible to accomplish both at once, as you can only do one or the other. Over the long term on the other hand, we can easily do both. Think of it like this. Many bodybuilders "bulk" and "cut". They go through long periods of high caloric intake to gain muscle, then long periods of low caloric intake to burn fat. Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time, and there is way too much back and forth to make it efficient. If you shrink this idea down to a smaller scale, in terms of a week, it is MUCH easier to accomplish a body recomposition by eating higher on the days where you lift (preferably 3+ times a week), and eat lower on your rest days.
