Today we are going to dive into a 20 minute INTENSE HIIT workout on the treadmill. If you are looking to become a fat-burning machine and burn calories even after your workout, at rest, THIS is the workout for you! This workout burns between 200-300 calories during the 20 minutes that you are on the treadmill. However, Hiit workouts have a thermogenic effect on the body and cause you to burn 1000+ calories through out the day even at rest. This happens as a result of what is called EPOC which is Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption, where the body requires more oxygen to restore the muscles that were used during the all out sprints. Because more oxygen is needed, it causes a rise in your metabolism, which results in 70 precent more calories burned at rest, compared to if the Hiit workout wasn't done. So in conclusion the 1000 calories is burned through out the day. I am currently using this routine to do a 20 day HIIT challenge myself, and am reaping the benefits of quick weight loss, increased energy, and sustaining the current lean muscle mass that i have worked so very hard for! Feel free to use this video daily for your HIIT workouts, as it is a follow-along video. If you are a beginner, perhaps start with 3-4 rounds of sprints instead of the full 8, and eventually work your way up to the full 8. For my sprints i am currently using a speed of 8.8 - 9.5MPH, and and an incline of 0.5 - 3.0. What is the number one enemy of the dieter. Is it chocolate? Is it candy? Is it carbohydrates? Is it white bread. No, no, no! Not at all. Chocolate, candy, carbohydrates can all have their calorie content read off the package and calculated depending on how many grams of it you eat. In my opinion SALT is the enemy of the dieter. If you eat too much salt you can GAIN as much as 10 lb overnight. You will jump on the scale and overnight your weight can go through the roof and you will want to quit your diet. I had this problem because I was visiting my friends and eating their food on the weekend. Every Monday I would jump on my trusty digital scale and be upset because I had "gained' 9 or 10 pounds over the weekend. I thought about it and figured that to gain 9 or 10 pounds I must have eaten 36000 to 40000 calories too much. Impossible because I didn't eat that much food. I realized that it must be water retention due to salt. When I cook I use very little salt. However most of my friends use a LOT of salt. A lot of the food they gave me was processed food and manufacturers use a LOT of salt. Eating other people's food or processed food really throws off my scales. If you eat out or at your friends house don't be surprised if you gain unexplained weight. Keep your salt intake as consistent as possible, otherwise your bathroom scale will be all over the place and you will not be able to get consistent readings about your weight loss progress. Diet enemy #2 is lightheadedness. You bend over and when you rise you feel dizzy and lightheaded. This is normal and not an excuse to stop dieting. As you lose weight you are able to rise slightly faster. It takes time(a few of months if you are constantly losing weight) for your equilibrium system to adjust. Expect that when you bend over and back up you will get a head rush. Knowing it will happen will eliminate its ability to surprise you. If you get a head rush too often it may be a good idea to lose weight at a slower pace. I just ignored the head rushes and maxed out my weight loss . Just be careful. When you lose weight your body is no longer the same. Your heart, nerves, equilibrium system, calorie requirements, etc, etc all have to readjust. The weight loss plateau is a time of readjustment. The body says "Stop Right There! no more weight loss for now. I have to readjust before I will allow you to lose more weight." When the body has readjusted it will once again be happy to shed any excess blubber.
